This time, Eric Pickles, secretary of UK community has joined one of the multi-faith processions started from Southwark Cathedral to the famous Borough Market. The main aim of this procession is to make Apple Day and Harvest Festival memorable. The procession was actually part of Year of Service, which is one of the supporting programs of UK Government. Year of Service is one of the popular programs organized by nine faith groups for sharing their justice and compassion values. Andrew Nunn, Dean of Southwark Cathedral has lead one of the small worship act at Borough Market. In addition, in the worship act, Nunn has given gifts, which have been accumulated for two local organizations named Robes Project and Manna Center. These organizations actually work for several homeless people.
According to Mr. Eric Pickles, “Just as ancient Southwark Cathedral and ancient Borough Market exist simultaneously, in the same way, sharing of same community as well as drawing of similar services may give mutual benefit to all. In this way, our communities and our faith become very strong when we go for working together.” Apple Day is not only celebrated in Borough Market, but also in other popular markets of UK. This includes QM Farmers Market, Camden Market, Dover Street Market and Newington Farmers Market and many more.
